Our story

Four letters, one calling

H.O.P.E. Through Christ Ministries exists so that no one in our community has to face hunger, a struggling marriage, or the weight of parenting alone.

In a world where challenges seem to multiply, we set out to be a light in Memphis — a community nonprofit dedicated to uplifting people in need and standing with families in hard seasons. The name says exactly what we do: H.O.P.E. stands for Helping Ordinary People Excel, Through Christ, and it has been our calling from the first grocery bag we ever packed.

We believe two simple things. First, that no one should feel isolated in their struggles — a hard season is heavy enough without carrying it alone. Second, that everyone deserves a chance to thrive, not just to get by. Those beliefs take physical shape every week: stocked pantry shelves, counseling rooms, classrooms, mobile food units, and long tables with room for one more chair.

Our work is guided by Christ's teaching on compassion and generosity, and carried by volunteers, donors, and local churches, schools, and businesses across Memphis, Tennessee.

You don't need to be a church member — or a believer — to receive help here. Our faith is why we serve, never a condition of being served.

When you're helped here, something else tends to happen: you become part of the help. Many of the people who once stood in our food line now hand out groceries beside us. That circle — receiving, healing, then giving — is the whole story of this ministry.
